Con esta noticia nos quedamos de piedra

With this news we are stunned.

Perhaps you have read that cannabis can be a natural antidote against the coronavirus. Even many portals dedicated to CBD rushed to publish it with headlines such as " Cannabidol 'slows down' the advance of Covid-19 and stimulates the immune response ".

Here at CBDACASA we want to be honest and always tell you things as they really are.

The rumor took off in early 2022, when researchers at the University of Chicago published a study with rodents that suggested that CBD, a compound in cannabis, could disrupt the replication of the coronavirus in cells. And then there were headlines proclaiming that smoking joints was the solution against the pandemic.

Some media quoted: " Cannabidiol (CBD) , a compound produced by the cannabis plant, inhibits SARS-CoV-2 infection , according to a study collected by the preprint platform, bioRxviv . This would be due to the fact that CBD and its metabolite, 7-OH-CBD , not the congeneric cannabinoids, potently block the replication of Covid-19 in lung epithelial cells ."

It is true that some studies have shown that certain cannabis compounds, such as CBD and THC, have antiviral, antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties that could be useful against the coronavirus. For example, a study published in the Journal of Natural Products found that certain compounds in cannabis could be helpful in preventing SARS-CoV-2 infection.

However, it is important to note that these studies have been conducted primarily in cell and animal models, and more studies are needed to understand how these compounds work in the human body and whether they are safe and effective in treating COVID-19.

It's a promising theory, and the growing body of research suggests that certain cannabis compounds have antiviral, antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effects that could be useful tools against the coronavirus, according to Susan Trapp , a researcher at Arizona's Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine.

Can CBD prevent covid-19?

According to the Huffington Post, "THC and CBD have very, very different effects," explains Daniele Piomelli , director of the University of California Cannabis Center. If THC and CBD are studied together, people may be under the misconception that smoking marijuana or taking cannabis-derived edibles could protect them from coronavirus.

Various laboratory studies have shown that CBD might have antiviral properties. It is known that the coronavirus can trigger an intense inflammatory response in the body, and it is also clear that CBD has anti-inflammatory effects .

Although CBD may have some antiviral properties, scientists who study the effects of cannabis do not recommend the use of cannabis in any form to prevent or treat coronavirus.

This research is at a very early stage and there are still many unknowns.

“The doses of CBD that would have to be taken to obtain any of the effects we are talking about are very high,” advises Piomelli. A few milligrams of CBD would have little to no effect. It would take hundreds of milligrams a day to see any of the effects that studies have found.

Moral: "It is not yet known whether cannabis can protect against the virus that is still on the minds of many."
