Calm the mind in an always-on world. The science behind CBD as a modulator of everyday stress and anxiety.
The Science of Calm
The SEC and the stress response
Chronic stress is identified by the WHO as a risk factor in over 75% of medical consultations. The endocannabinoid system (ECS) modulates the stress response: it regulates cortisol release and participates in balancing the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis (HPA axis). Endocannabinoids act as a physiological braking system against excessive activation.
What the research says
Bergamaschi et al. (2011) observed a significant reduction in social anxiety in patients who received 600 mg of CBD before public speaking compared to placebo. Crippa et al. (2011) documented changes in cerebral blood flow consistent with an anxiolytic effect using functional neuroimaging.
How to use it in your routine
For daytime use, broad-spectrum oils (with no detectable THC) are the most sought-after due to not causing drowsiness. Doses studied for anxiety are notably higher than those used for sleep (300-600 mg in trials), but many users report subjective benefit at lower doses.
