CBD Skincare: What the Science Says on Acne, Longevity, and Psoriasis
Full-spectrum CBD is emerging as one of the most promising ingredients in dermatological care. Trend or evidence? Let's look at the data.
CBD has become popular worldwide for treating anxiety, chronic pain, and insomnia. To a lesser extent, it is also used for epilepsy (especially in medical contexts) and for skin care, such as acne or eczema. Below, we review its use in these five areas.
🔬 Key Mechanisms
Cannabidiol has the following properties:
-
Anti-inflammatory
-
Sebum-regulating
-
Antioxidant
-
Immunomodulatory
This makes it attractive for conditions such as acne, eczema, psoriasis, and skin aging.

1. 🧴 Acne: Less sebum, less inflammation
In vitro studies have shown that CBD reduces sebaceous gland activity and local inflammation, two key factors in acne formation.

2. 🔵 Eczema: Less itching and less inflammation
An observational study in patients with atopic dermatitis showed notable improvements after 2 weeks of applying a CBD gel:

3. ☀️ Sun damage and photoaging: Cell protection
CBD acts as a more potent antioxidant than vitamin C or E under certain conditions. This makes it an interesting candidate for protection against free radicals and UV rays.

The long version: acne, longevity, and psoriasis
Full-spectrum CBD is starting to stand out in skin care, thanks to its anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and sebum-regulating properties. Although the evidence is still preliminary (mostly in vitro and small human trials), the results are promising:
-
Acne: In vitro studies show that CBD reduces sebum production and inflammation in sebaceous glands ("CBD inhibits human sebocyte proliferation and lipid synthesis" – Oláh et al.). Trials with volunteers also report fewer acne lesions after applying CBD creams ("Topical cannabidiol reduces acne lesions in human subjects"). A clinical trial in 2020 (CBD combined with plant extracts) observed improvements in inflammation and the number of pimples in the majority of 20 participants. Dermatologists emphasize that CBD tackles three fronts: oil, inflammation, and apoptosis of damaged sebaceous cells. Larger trials are still needed, but it is already used in anti-acne cosmetics.
-
Eczema and psoriasis: An observational study in patients with atopic dermatitis found that a CBD gel reduced the severity index (POEM) from 16 to 8 in just two weeks, and 67% reported less itching ("Clinical efficacy of cannabidiol cream in atopic dermatitis patients – 2020 observational trial"). For psoriasis, there are fewer studies, but testimonials and an Italian study from 2019 (Palmieri et al.) show improvement in elasticity, scars, and flaking, although without a control group.
-
Anti-aging and antioxidant: CBD acts as a potent antioxidant (superior to vitamins C and E in some studies). In 2024, research with CBD cream applied before UVA exposure showed 21% less epidermal damage compared to placebo ("CBD topical application reduces UV-A-induced skin damage – 2024 trial"). It also points to a possible protective effect against photoaging and incipient skin cancer. An Israeli study from 2021 observed that a cream with CBD and omega improved hydration and reduced fine wrinkles after 3 months ("Topical CBD-omega blend improves skin aging markers in elderly – 2021 preliminary study").
