Care for your skin
The largest organ in the body also has its own endocannabinoid system. The science behind CBD cosmetics.
The Science of Skin
Cutaneous SCC
Human skin has its own complete and functional endocannabinoid system. CB1 and CB2 receptors are present in keratinocytes, sebaceous glands, hair follicles, and Langerhans cells. Their function is to maintain skin homeostasis: regulating sebum production, the cell renewal cycle, and the local inflammatory response.
What the research says
A study by Oláh et al. (2014) documented sebostatic and anti-inflammatory properties of CBD on human sebocytes in vitro, opening up a line of research on acne. In atopic dermatitis, a review by Tóth et al. (2019) gathered preliminary evidence on cannabinoids as modulators of pruritus and the skin barrier.
How to use it in your routine
For facial routines, look for CBD cosmetics with defined concentrations and, ideally, laboratory analyses. Combinations with hyaluronic acid, vitamin E, or hemp oil are common and complementary. Serum formats offer greater penetration, while creams are better for hydration.
